Search Juneau County Court Dockets

A Juneau County court docket search begins with the court that owns the case. Wisconsin circuit matters use a statewide public case-summary portal and records held by the county clerk. Municipal traffic and ordinance matters stay with their local or joint municipal court. Search the Juneau County court docket by name or case number, check the listed court events, and then confirm a hearing or request an official document from the proper clerk. Public access is broad, but sealed, confidential, juvenile, and older records may require another route or may not be publicly available.

Juneau County Docket Search Starts With WCCA

WCCA costs nothing and covers the whole state. It gives the public a case-summary layer for eligible Wisconsin circuit matters. Juneau County filings are included. Keep it straight from eFiling, though. Circuit-court eFiling demands registration and exists to submit and manage filings. No account is needed to read an eligible WCCA docket summary.

The best query uses the full name or the complete circuit case number. A birth date helps separate people with similar names. Once results return, compare the county, the case type, the filing date, and the caption instead of trusting one matching name alone. A missing court record can stem from several causes. It might be a spelling slip, the wrong court, or an access restriction. It could also be a filing too recent to display yet, or coverage that simply runs out for older cases.

What a Court Docket Shows

Think of a court docket as a timeline of everything filed in a case. Wisconsin's public interface usually titles it a case summary. The timeline gets tagged "court record events." A Juneau County entry can show a lot. Look for the case number, court branch, parties, attorneys, filing date, status, hearings, public charges or claims, judgments, and financial activity. One caution applies. An event description proves that something was filed or ordered. It is not always the document itself.

Work from the top down and catch the newest event first. A scheduled hearing is just that, not a result. A continuance shifts an event to a later date without dismissing anything. Even a disposition, which resolves a charge or claim, may be followed by more. Sentencing, costs, amended orders, enforcement, or an appeal can all come after it.

Case numberThe court's unique circuit file identifier.
Case typeThe public category, such as criminal, civil, family, traffic, or small claims.
StatusWhether the matter is open, closed, or otherwise described by the court.
Court record eventA dated filing, hearing, order, notice, or other docket action.
DispositionThe recorded outcome for a charge, claim, or case stage.
Financial entryA published judgment, cost, payment, or balance item.

Juneau County Docket Summaries Are Not Files

The free WCCA summary and the official file are cousins, not twins. WCCA shows selected case-level data and event descriptions. It generally does not put public images on screen. Every pleading, exhibit, order, or transcript stays off the display. The Juneau County Clerk of Court keeps the official circuit record. That office issues plain or certified copies of it. Want a transcript? That verbatim typed record must come from the court reporter who covered the proceeding. Where no official reporter sat in, some commissioner hearings exist as digital audio instead.

The Juneau County Clerk of Court page names the office that creates, maintains, disposes of, and preserves the written circuit record. The official clerk page also lists the local contact and service entry point.

The line stays the same. WCCA helps you locate the case; the clerk controls the source record and its certification.

Which Courts Keep Dockets

Juneau County Circuit Court is Wisconsin's trial court for circuit civil and criminal matters arising in the county. It is split across two branches. The Clerk of Court keeps the general circuit record. Probate, guardianship, protective placement, mental-health commitment, adoption, and juvenile files belong to the Register in Probate and Clerk of Juvenile. Many of those court records carry extra privacy limits.

Municipal courts sit outside that system. Mauston Area Municipal Court handles non-criminal ordinance and traffic cases for Mauston, New Lisbon, Germantown, the Village and Town of Necedah, and Lyndon Station. Regional Center Municipal Court covers Elroy, Hillsboro, Wonewoc, Union Center, Kendall, and Ontario. Anything federal goes to the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin and PACER. It never appears in WCCA.

Juneau County Justice Center Dockets

The Juneau County Justice Center sits at 200 Oak Street in Mauston. Find the Clerk of Court counter in Room 2230, up on the second floor. Circuit Court Branch I and Branch II both run their trial-court work from the Justice Center, and court commissioners handle the preliminary and commissioner proceedings the circuit system assigns to them. A branch assignment tells you which judicial office holds the case. The clerk stays the central keeper of the written circuit record either way.

The official Circuit Court, Judges, and Probate page lists the local branches and the Justice Center entry, and its official image gives a quick visual check of the county court structure.

That page separates the judicial offices from the Clerk of Court records counter. A courtroom-specific question may be worth a call to the branch. Record copies and the public docket, though, all route through the clerk.

Finding Court Dates and Settings

A WCCA event entry may list a coming circuit hearing. Confirm it before you drive anywhere. Check the date and time. Note the branch or judge, the location, and the setting type. A status conference is not an initial appearance. A pretrial conference is not a motion hearing. Trials and sentencings are their own events, so read each label with care.

For circuit matters, look at WCCA. Compare it with the newest mailed notice. Call the Juneau County Clerk of Court at 608-847-9356 when you need certainty. The clerk's public counter also helps during posted weekday hours. Mauston municipal appearances sometimes show up in the city calendar category. The municipal clerk should confirm them. Regional Center matters take a direct call to 608-464-7667, since the regional office posts no stable public calendar.

A reset or continuance usually shows up as a later event on the docket. It moves the setting without deciding the case. Missed a date? Call the responsible clerk right away. Only the court can say what action is now required.

Juneau County Docket Citation Routing

That small box in the upper-left corner of a traffic citation tells you which Juneau County court holds your docket. The county's traffic page lists three numbers: 608-847-9356 for Juneau Circuit Court, 608-847-2488 for Mauston Area Municipal Court, and 608-464-7667 for Regional Center Court. Call the one printed on the ticket. Where the officer stopped you, or which agency wrote it, does not always point to the right court.

A circuit citation is searchable through WCCA and follows the county payment or plea procedure. A Mauston Area ticket runs through the municipal court's payment, plea, form, and calendar route instead. Regional Center citations belong to the regional office. Pay the wrong court. Mail a not-guilty plea to the wrong clerk. Your deadline may lose its protection.

Check the citation first: The printed court name determines which clerk holds the docket and where a plea, payment, or date inquiry belongs.

Public Access to Dockets

Wisconsin treats court records as public, within limits. Inspection and copying fall under Wisconsin Statutes section 19.35. Supreme Court Rule Chapter 72 sets how long court records are kept. Wisconsin Statutes section 801.21 lets a person ask a court to shield information inside a filed record. Open proceedings themselves are addressed by Wisconsin Statutes section 757.14, subject to lawful exceptions.

Plenty stays out of view. Sealed cases may be hidden or redacted. So may juvenile and adoption files, confidential proceedings, protected personal data, and certain specialized probate records. Even a public WCCA summary can be narrower than the official file behind it. Court staff will explain the access procedure. They cannot give legal advice or grant a request that needs a judge's order.

Wisconsin access rules:

Wisconsin Statutes section 19.35 addresses inspection and copying of records.

Supreme Court Rule Chapter 72 governs court-record retention.

Wisconsin Statutes section 801.21 supplies the protected-information procedure.

Wisconsin Statutes section 757.14 addresses open court proceedings.

Juneau County Docket Access Has Privacy Limits

An empty WCCA result does not mean no case exists. Check your spelling first. Try alternate names. Try the county selection and the court named on your paperwork. Some matters simply sit behind the public-access boundary. Juvenile, adoption, guardianship, mental-health, sealed, and protected records can be blocked or narrowed online. Older court records may fall outside the portal's coverage. They may sit outside the retention window as well.

For judge and administration facts, turn to the official directory. The Juneau County judges page lists the current judicial offices without exposing private case details.

The directory tells you which branch handles a docket. It does not replace the case summary or open a restricted file.

The Clerk and Docket Records

The Juneau County Clerk of Court keeps the circuit court records: criminal, civil, family, small claims, eviction, replevin, traffic forfeiture, jury, and general files. Alecia M. Kast is named as the current Clerk of Court. You will find the office at 200 Oak Street, Room 2230, Mauston, WI 53948. It is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except holidays. Call 608-847-9356, fax 608-847-9360, or email juneau.county@wicourts.gov.

Records requests go through the county's online Revize entry, by mail, or at the counter. A mailed request should describe the record. Give the case number if you know it. Include a self-addressed stamped envelope prepaid by check or money order. In person, pay with cash or check. The county lists $1.25 per page, $5 per certification, and $5 per name search. No turnaround time is guaranteed. Email reaches the office, but case filings are not accepted that way.

Juneau County Docket Request Choices

Match the channel to what you need. WCCA gives a free public case summary. The county's online request entry handles paid copies. It links payment through Allpaid with destination code 1402. Mail suits a requester who can name the document and send payment plus a return envelope. The clerk's counter allows in-person inspection and copies under the usual access rules and fees. Phone and email work for routing questions. Neither counts as a formal filing.

Juneau County Docket Caseload Context

What kind of volume moves through Juneau County court dockets? The 2024 circuit statistics give a picture. Criminal filings came to 528, traffic forfeitures to 537, other forfeitures to 196, and civil filings to 1,369. Keep the frame in mind, though. These are filing counts by category. They are not a roster of people, and they are not proof of wrongdoing. A single case can hold multiple events, get reopened, get transferred, or stretch across reporting periods.

Municipal numbers sit on a different footing. They are self-reported. Regional Center Court logged 325 matters in 2024. The Mauston Area report showed zero, yet the state itself warns that municipal reports can be incomplete and cannot be authenticated. Treat that zero as an artifact, not as proof the court did nothing. Statistics sketch the range of docket work. They will never answer a case search.

Court Dockets by City in Juneau County

Three incorporated cities appear on Juneau County's official municipality list. The 2020 Census place table ranks Mauston first, New Lisbon second, and Elroy third. Population rank tells you nothing about court jurisdiction, however. Where a municipal case lands depends on two things. One is the court agreement in place. The other is the court named on the citation itself.

The split works like this. Mauston and New Lisbon municipal matters go through Mauston Area Municipal Court. Elroy goes through Regional Center Municipal Court. Circuit cases from all three cities are still Juneau County Circuit Court matters. You reach them through WCCA or the county clerk.

No official source describes parking, security screening, or elevator accessibility at the Justice Center, so calling ahead is the safer plan.
