Traffic Court Records in Juneau County
Juneau County Circuit Court takes criminal traffic matters. It also takes any citation that names the circuit court. Its public case summaries can appear in Wisconsin Circuit Court Access, or WCCA. The Juneau County Clerk of Court keeps the official file. Two municipal courts split the rest. Mauston Area Municipal Court covers non-criminal local violations for Mauston, New Lisbon, Germantown, the Village and Town of Necedah, and Lyndon Station. Regional Center Municipal Court serves Elroy, Hillsboro, Wonewoc, Union Center, Kendall, and Ontario.
Look at the upper-left corner of the citation. The court printed there is your routing key. A circuit traffic record can show the case number, public court record events, pleas, settings, charge or disposition information, judgments, and payment status. A municipal ticket stays with its own municipal clerk. A separate circuit matter can change that.
Three Juneau County Traffic Routes
The county's traffic citation instructions name three contacts, and whichever court is printed on the ticket decides which path applies.
- Juneau Circuit Court, 608-847-9356, for criminal traffic and citations that name the circuit court
- Mauston Area Municipal Court, 608-847-2488, for non-criminal municipal violations in its service area
- Regional Center Municipal Court, 608-464-7667, for violations within its six-community jurisdiction
A New Lisbon ticket can route to Mauston Area Court, and an Elroy-area ticket can route to Regional Center. Where the incident happened matters more than city size, so population alone never settles the question.
Juneau County Municipal Ticket Check
The Mauston court FAQ stresses telling a municipal citation apart from a Juneau Circuit Court matter.

The citation itself controls where a plea and payment go. Mauston Area Court takes cash, check, or money order by mail or drop-off, and its official instructions link an online payment route. The Mauston Area Municipal Court page lists the served communities and clerk contacts.

Regional Center offers no party-name search. Call its court office directly rather than sending a payment to Mauston or the circuit clerk.
How to Look Up a Traffic Ticket
For a circuit ticket, use WCCA by exact case number when you have one. Otherwise search by party name and add Juneau County. Use a birth date only when you need to tell similar names apart. WCCA also includes business name, Search, and Reset controls. The municipal courts post no public citation-number format or name-search database. Follow the citation and clerk route instead of guessing.
- Read the court name and response terms on the citation.
- For circuit court, search WCCA by case number or name with Juneau selected.
- For Mauston Area or Regional Center, use that municipal court's clerk channel.
- Call the traffic clerk at 608-847-9361 or visit the circuit clerk counter when a circuit entry is unclear.
- Record the court date, amount, plea deadline, and correct payment destination.
| Field | Type | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Party Name | Text | Last, first, and middle |
| Birth Date | Date/text | Optional disambiguation |
| Business Name | Text | Business-party search |
| County | Dropdown | Select Juneau |
| Case Number | Text | Most precise circuit key |
| Search or Reset | Control | Submit or clear |
Juneau County WCCA Payment Search
Paying a Juneau County traffic fine online starts on the WCCA fee and fine payment screen, which asks for a first name, last name, and county.

Select Juneau County and confirm the case before paying. The county also takes check or money order by mail. It takes cash at the Justice Center counter. Mauston municipal payments follow the city court's own mail, drop-off, or linked online route. Regional Center posts no online payment fields, so contact that court for its current options.
Finding Your Traffic Court Date
The citation gives the first appearance date and the named court. For a circuit case, open the WCCA summary. Read the newest future court record event. Then compare it with later entries. A continuance, reset, cancellation, plea, disposition, or judgment can replace an earlier date. Juneau County itself publishes no searchable county-wide daily calendar for its courts. Mauston's city calendar has a Municipal Court Appearances category. It is not a party-name docket. Regional Center uses a separate phone route. When the date stays uncertain, contact the responsible clerk with the case number. A calendar listing is not proof of attendance or of what happened at a hearing.
| Case number | Use the exact WCCA number. An official format cue is YYYYCM000000, but no local citation format was published. |
|---|---|
| Court | Circuit, Mauston Area, or Regional Center |
| Date and time | The current appearance or hearing setting |
| Setting | Initial appearance, pretrial conference, or other displayed event |
| Status | Read with later resets, judgments, and payment events |
Juneau County Five-Day Deadline
Circuit citations that do not require appearance still demand quick action. That matters if you plan to contest them. The county requires the Not Guilty Plea form at least five days before the court date. Submit it by mail, fax, or eFile. After the plea or appearance, the county mails notice of the date and time. The District Attorney's number is 608-847-9314.
The court says it will not call with the pretrial date. Keep the mailing address current until the matter is closed and paid.
Mauston Area Municipal Court runs its own written-plea process. Its not-guilty plea may be emailed, faxed, mailed, or dropped at City Hall before the initial court date.
Paying or Contesting a Ticket
Read whether the citation says Must Appear. A criminal charge with that direction requires an appearance at the initial appearance. Appearance may not be required. In that case, if you will not contest the citation, the county says to pay the stated amount before the court date. Contesting a circuit citation takes the timely not-guilty route. Payment and a not-guilty plea are different acts with different results.
| Paying the Ticket | Contesting the Ticket |
|---|---|
| Resolves an eligible citation without contest under the court's stated process | Places the matter on the court's contested-case path |
| Pay before the court date when appearance is not required | Circuit form due at least five days before the date |
| WCCA route, mail, or circuit counter | Mail, fax, or eFile for the circuit form |
Missed Response or Payment: Failure to act can produce a default judgment. The county says payment remains due and gives 60 days to pay before a possible one-year license suspension or five days in jail, depending on the citation.
Juneau County Traffic Default
A default judgment means the court entered a guilty judgment because the required response never occurred. The citation did not vanish. The county's traffic page explains the payment period and possible consequences, and its official instruction screen collects the not-guilty, jury, default, and reopening rules in one place. Check the Juneau County traffic procedures for current steps.

The same page tells you what to bring when appearing. Bring proof of registration, a valid license, or proof of repair as applicable to the citation.
Juneau County Traffic Address Updates
Pretrial notices in a Juneau County circuit traffic case arrive by mail. They come after a not-guilty plea or appearance. No reminder call comes from the court. If you move, tell the court your new mailing address right away. Keep it current until the case closes and every ordered sum is paid.
Bring whatever the county asks you to show for the citation when you appear. That might be a valid driver license. It might be proof of registration or proof a repair was made. Hand these papers over through the process of the court handling your case. Unsure how to update an address or submit proof? Call the traffic clerk at 608-847-9361.
Court Traffic Record vs Driver Record
Two different offices keep two different files here. A court traffic record covers the citation case itself: the plea, public hearings, docket events, disposition, judgment, and payment status. WisDOT keeps the state motor-vehicle licensing and conviction record. Mauston's official court FAQ explains that traffic conviction information goes to the Motor Vehicle Department, and that department assigns the points.
So the two records are not the same thing. WCCA is not a full driver history, and a WisDOT record is not the Juneau County Circuit Court docket. Ask each office for its own file.
| Court Traffic Record | Driver Record | |
|---|---|---|
| Kept By | Issuing court and its clerk | Wisconsin Department of Transportation |
| Shows | Citation case, plea, events, disposition, and payment status | Licensing, reported convictions, points, and suspensions |
| How to Get It | WCCA or the responsible court clerk | WisDOT's official channels |
Reopening Juneau County Traffic Records
Want a default reopened in circuit court? File the official Motion to Reopen. The Court Commissioner rules on it. The motion is only a request, never an automatic reversal of the judgment. Juneau County says a grant may require a nonrefundable $50 fee within five business days. A pretrial conference with the District Attorney comes next.
Mauston Area Municipal Court works differently. It has its own reopen form. It may charge $25. The form goes in by email, fax, mail, or drop-off. For Regional Center matters, call that court directly at 608-464-7667. In every case, use the court that entered the judgment.
Note: A circuit jury request has a separate ten-day window from the appearance date and a nonrefundable $36 fee.
Fees and Copies
Copies of a Juneau County circuit traffic record come from the Clerk of Court. A plain copy runs $1.25 per page. Certification adds $5. A clerk name search costs $5 per name when you do not have the case number. Say whether you need certification. Name the exact case document. For a municipal citation, confirm copy procedures with the court listed on it.
| Item | Fee | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Circuit jury request | $36 | Nonrefundable; request within ten days |
| Circuit traffic reopen | $50 | Possible, nonrefundable, if granted and required |
| Mauston municipal reopen | $25 | May be assessed |
| Ordinary court copy | $1.25 per page | Prepaid through circuit clerk |
| Certification | $5 | Per certification |
| Name search | $5 | Per name |
Juneau County Forfeiture Volume
The official 2024 circuit caseload report counts 4,268 opened forfeiture matters in Juneau County. That towers over its 445 opened criminal matters. Contested traffic alone accounts for 592 of the opened forfeitures. These are workload counts, not unique people. They are not findings about anyone.
That gap is exactly why traffic and other forfeiture work should never be lumped in with the criminal docket. The report tracks opened, disposed, transferred, reactivated, and pending workload.
Juneau County Traffic Jury Request
A jury request in a Juneau County circuit traffic case must be filed within ten days of the appearance date, with a nonrefundable $36 fee. Note that this deadline is not the same as the five-day deadline for pleading not guilty before the court date. One filing does not cover the other. Confirm details with the court before relying on either.
The traffic clerk can tell you where the request goes and how the fee is paid. Clerk staff cannot advise you on whether a jury is your best legal move.
