Searching Cases by Name
Wisconsin Circuit Court Access, or WCCA, is the official statewide case-summary search used for Juneau County Circuit Court matters. A name search can use a person's last, first, and middle names. It also accepts a business name. Select Juneau in the county field to keep common-name results from spreading across all participating Wisconsin counties. A birth date can help distinguish people with similar names, but it is sensitive data and should be used only when needed to find the correct public case.
- Open WCCA and read its public-access terms.
- Enter the last name and then the first name, or enter the full business name.
- Choose Juneau in the County dropdown and add a birth date only when lawful and useful.
- Compare case number, filing date, type, and status before opening a result.
The Wisconsin public-access landing page also routes readers to circuit and appellate searches. Its statewide scope is useful when the filing county is uncertain.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Party Name | Text | No | Last, first, and middle-name fields |
| Birth Date | Date/text | No | Optional name disambiguation |
| Business Name | Text | No | For a business party |
| County | Dropdown | No | Select Juneau instead of Statewide |
| Case Number | Text | No | Best when the exact number is known |
Juneau County WCCA Fields
The current WCCA search interface displays the fields used to narrow a public Juneau County case search.

The screen is a statewide application, so choosing Juneau County is a key search step rather than a cosmetic filter. Search and Reset control the query, while advanced search and judgment search serve different needs.
If too many names appear, add the first name and county before relying on another detail. Compare the case type and year. A search result is a pointer to a case, not proof that every displayed name is the person intended.
Searching by Case Number
An exact case number is usually the cleanest search key. Wisconsin materials show compact patterns such as YYYYCF000000, YYYYCM000000, and YYYYCV000000. The first four digits mark the year. The letters identify a case type, such as felony, misdemeanor, or civil, and the final digits are the sequence. These are format cues only. Copy the full number from a notice, order, receipt, or prior case summary.
Enter the number in WCCA's Case Number field and confirm that the returned county is Juneau. A transposed digit, a missing zero, or the wrong case-type letters can produce no result. When the number remains uncertain, the Juneau County Clerk of Court can perform a paid name search from a complete name and, when known, date of birth.
When Juneau Search Returns Nothing
No result does not prove that no court record exists. Check spelling, reverse a compound surname if needed, remove an uncertain middle name, and verify that Juneau County is the correct filing county. Older records can also be affected by retention or system conversion. Wisconsin Supreme Court Rule Chapter 72 governs retention rather than a single promise that every old case will remain online.
A municipal citation may not follow the circuit-court path. Read the court name in the upper-left corner of the citation and contact Mauston Area Municipal Court or Regional Center Municipal Court when named.
Sealed, juvenile, adoption, guardianship, mental-health, and other confidential matters can be withheld or limited. For an eligible circuit record that is not visible, ask the appropriate clerk about the lawful access route.
What a Case Search Returns
A public Juneau County result opens a case summary rather than a folder of document images. It can show filing and status facts, public party and attorney roles, a branch identifier, and dated court record events. Criminal summaries may add charge descriptions, statutes, severity, disposition, and an amount owed. Civil summaries may show motion, order, judgment, or hearing event descriptions. The wording records that an event occurred. It does not reproduce the pleading, order, transcript, or evidence behind that line.
| Case number | Year, case-type letters, and sequence |
|---|---|
| Case type | Public category such as criminal, civil, or family |
| Status | The published open, closed, or other case state |
| Branch | The Juneau judicial branch assigned to the case |
| Court record events | Dated descriptions of public filings, settings, and rulings |
Juneau Events Are Not PDFs
WCCA may list that a motion, order, judgment, or hearing occurred, but public document images and transcripts are not supplied through that summary. The Juneau County records-request page is the route for an identified circuit-court document. A transcript is ordered from the official court reporter, while digital audio may exist for a hearing recorded without a reporter.
- Case summary
- The public overview of a case and its main fields.
- Court record event
- A dated line describing an action or filing.
- Certified copy
- A clerk-certified reproduction, not a browser printout.
This line between index and file matters. Use the event date and description to identify what to request from the clerk.
Statewide vs County Case Search
Juneau County does not publish a separate county-only case database in the inspected sources. WCCA is both the statewide circuit search and the public online route for eligible Juneau Circuit Court summaries. The county clerk remains custodian of the official local record. Its counter and records-request channels supply copies that WCCA does not host. Municipal courts keep separate dockets and procedures.
| WCCA | Juneau County Clerk |
|---|---|
| Statewide circuit-court summaries | Official Juneau Circuit Court files |
| Free case and event view | Paid copies, certification, and request help |
| Name or case-number discovery | A known document or record request |
WCCA Is Not eFiling
Wisconsin circuit-court eFiling is a registered filing environment. It is not the public Juneau County case search. Parties and attorneys use it to submit documents in covered matters. The public uses WCCA for eligible case summaries and contacts the clerk for the documents behind those entries.
Do not try to email a filing to the Juneau County Clerk. The office expressly says it does not accept case filings by email. Use the approved eFiling or filing method for the case, and treat the clerk's email address as a contact channel only.
Juneau County Branch Check
A result can identify the judicial branch responsible for a Juneau County case. Branch I and Branch II are both part of Juneau County Circuit Court, so the branch field helps route a question about a scheduled event. The official Wisconsin circuit-court directory lists Branch I at 608-847-9351 and Branch II at 608-847-9567. The general Clerk of Court line is 608-847-9356.
Use the clerk for record access and procedural routing. A judge's office is not a substitute for a records request, and clerk staff cannot give legal advice. If a summary has no future date, review the newest court record events before calling. A missing future setting does not by itself show that the case is closed, dismissed, or complete.
Note: Confirm the case number, county, branch, and newest event together before relying on a Juneau County search result.
Access and Restricted Cases
Wisconsin favors access to court records, but access has privacy limits. Wisconsin Statutes sections 801.19 and 801.20 govern protected and confidential information, while section 801.21 supplies a sealing and redaction procedure. A public Juneau County case search may omit protected data, hide a confidential case, or show a redacted event. Juvenile, adoption, guardianship, and mental-health records receive added limits.
The Wisconsin sealing and redaction guide explains the clerk's and court's roles. A lawful right to inspect one record does not create a right to every attached item. Contact the Juneau County Clerk of Court for circuit records and the Register in Probate/Clerk of Juvenile for the specialized files that office maintains.
